Panic Attacks Bring It On

Panic Attack? Bring It On

Heightened anxiety, or better known as panic attacks, are a normal occurrence, or are they?   Normal in the sense that it is accepted as a part of our daily activities and stressful culture. Bring it on, let’s talk about this.

Does Anxiety keep you alert?

Anxiety is not that bad though. It keeps us primed, as if it trains us to be always on our toes. It also keeps us psychologically alert. This anxiety can be good but to a certain extent or limit only. Beyond the limit, things may start to get nasty.

When we are engulfed with a bout of panic attack, we have one of two choices. We can either face it or get away from it. This is better known as the fight/flight response. Given a choice, would you face panic attack and experience its full impact, or would you rather retreat or run away from it?

Below the age of five, many learned habits are stored in our subconscious mind.  Most of these learned habits were experiences we watch or viewed.  And later in life surface again when a trigger or event occurs.  Post traumatic stress acts the same way.

When our mind is involved in a high stress or extremely traumatic event we hide or bury it deep into our subconscious but a sensitizing event or incident can bring that buried anxiety or panic to the surface.

Many times, our bodies cannot control or cope with it and shut down.

Panic Attack and Fear Can Freeze You

If we equate panic to fear (the two are similar in a lot of ways), the easy way out is to avoid it.  Some individuals experience fear and panic to the point they become frozen or disabled.  They break down, cry, scream and can no longer cope with reality.

But there is always a great chance (and you can be sure of it) that it will haunt you again and again. Whatever that fear is, literally speaking, this will keep you on the run and you will always be checking and looking behind you, cowering from it. The more you run away from it, the more it will chase you and make fun of you. It will be like a ghost running after you with a voice or sound that won’t go away.

Face Panic Attacks

Given this kind of a situation, it is apparently more logical to face panic attacks. Fight it – or befriend it – whichever turns out to be a better option, and experience its full impact. There is a saying that “experience is the best teacher.” It is also true that when you are experienced on a certain situation, you get to handle this situation better the next time around because you already know how to deal with it.

The more experiences you get out of it, the more confident you become. And when you are confident, what you used to fear will not make you fearful anymore. You will get immune to it. The more instances you are able to handle it, the more capable you will be each time it occurs. After many episodes, you might perfect the art of handling panic attacks, from fearing panic attacks to handling it remarkably in a positive way. That’s an achievement.

Using Hypnosis to End Panic Attacks

In my practice I use two techniques to handle PTS and anxiety/panic attacks.  The best and most effective treatment for PTS is using EFT.  Post Traumatic Stress is not just form military actions, but affects the body when any extreme trauma or tragic event occurs in your life. From a serious accident to a shooting or losing a family member, house fires or even witnessing a tragedy.

Now let’s talk panic attacks and anxiety attacks.  First, I must talk about asthma.  Asthma is a form of panic attack.  When the body is put into a situation where breathing is impaired, especially at a young age (5 and below) the body goes into autonomic survival mode.

Such as a near drowning, the body blocks water from entering the trachea. The subconscious mind remembers this action and when a trigger occurs in your life the mind reverts to this memory. Shutting down your breathing.

The medical treatment is an inhaler.  In Hypnosis, we use a regression technique to find the first sensitizing incident and resolve the memory from the subconscious.

This is not a new technique, it was developed by Max Wertheimer as gestalt therapy in 1912.  It has evolved by many into chair therapy and age regression.

Using somnambulism level of hypnosis, we take you back to that first sensitizing incident that is causing you anxiety, panic and fear. Then we deal with the issue being retained by your subconscious mind.

In Conclusion

It is also important to understand fear.  Fear is an acronym for False Evidence Appearing Real.  97% of what we fear never comes true.  By keeping a fear foremost in your thoughts, you tend to attract that which you do not want. Also  read  Be Positive or Be Quiet.
